Not for begginers, the Peacock plant, also known as Calathea makoyana/Goeppertia makoyana, is a beautiful tropical houseplant, famed for its contrasting green and purplish-red leaves. They do take a little bit of work to keep in good condition.

How to care for a peacock plant? It needs bright, indirect sunlight, temperatures of 60-75°F (16-24°C), and high humidity. Water when the soil surface starts to dry, and fertilize with a dilute, balanced fertilizer every 2-4 weeks.
